Mind of a Child Tutoring

Mind of a Child Tutoring connects students and families with college tutors who provide personalized, affordable, one-to-one academic support. Our mission is to reduce financial barriers to tutoring while allowing college students to use their academic strengths to mentor and support younger students.

Affordable Tutoring Rates

To support our commitment to affordable academic assistance, tutors participating in Mind of a Child agree to charge:

$30 per hour for academic support
$40 per hour for SAT and ACT preparation

Tutors may not charge more than the agreed-upon hourly rate for families matched through Mind of a Child.

Tutor Commitment

Tutors are expected to provide reliable, professional, and supportive academic assistance. By participating in Mind of a Child, tutors agree to:

Communicate professionally and respectfully with students and their parents or guardians.
Maintain the agreed-upon tutoring schedule and provide advance notice when a schedule change is necessary.
Create a positive, encouraging, and supportive learning environment.
Provide tutoring in subjects and grade levels they are qualified to support.
Maintain the agreed-upon rate of $30 per hour for academic support.
Maintain the agreed-upon rate of $40 per hour for SAT and ACT preparation.

Our goal is to create successful matches that benefit both students and tutors. Students receive affordable, individualized academic support, while college tutors have the opportunity to mentor younger students, share their knowledge, strengthen their leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact.

How Tutors Connect With Students

Step 1: Complete the Tutor Registration Form
College students complete a short registration form with information about their college or university, major, year in school, subjects they can tutor, relevant experience, and availability.

Step 2: Tell Us About Your Tutoring Strengths
Tutors identify the subjects and grade levels they feel most confident supporting and share any previous tutoring, mentoring, teaching, or experience working with younger students.

Step 3: Meet With Mind of a Child
Potential tutors participate in a brief introductory meeting with the Mind of a Child team to discuss the program, expectations, availability, tutoring strengths, and commitment to providing professional and supportive tutoring.

Step 4: Sign the Mind of a Child Tutoring Agreement
Approved tutors review and sign the Tutor Commitment and Tutoring Agreement, confirming that they understand the program's expectations, policies, and established tutoring rates.

Step 5: Join Our College Tutor Network
Once approved and the agreement has been signed, tutors become part of the Mind of a Child Tutor Network and are considered for student matches based on their subject expertise, experience, and availability.

Step 6: Receive a Student Match
When a student needs support in the tutor's subject area, Mind of a Child will contact the tutor with a potential match based on the student's academic needs, grade level, learning goals, and schedule.

Step 7: Review and Accept the Match
Tutors review the student's academic support needs and availability before confirming that the match aligns with their experience, subject knowledge, and schedule.

Step 8: Meet the Student and Parent
The tutor participates in an introductory meeting with the student and parent or guardian to discuss academic goals, expectations, scheduling, learning needs, and areas where the student would benefit from additional support.

Step 9: Confirm the Schedule and Tutoring Rate
The tutor and family agree on a tutoring schedule and hourly rate before tutoring begins. Academic tutoring is $30 per hour range. SAT and ACT tutoring $40 per hour range.

Step 10: Begin One-to-One Tutoring
Tutors provide personalized academic support designed to strengthen the student's understanding, confidence, study habits, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and overall academic performance.

Step 11: Stay Connected and Support Progress
Tutors maintain appropriate communication with the student and parent or guardian and contact Mind of a Child when assistance is needed with the match, scheduling, academic concerns, or other issues.
